FEBRUARY 6-10th is NATIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELING WEEK

ANNOUNCES COUNSELOR OF THE YEAR
AWARD
Capital District
Counseling Association is now accepting nominations for the
Counselor of the
Year
Award. This will be the first year this award is given and will provide
long overdue recognition of counselors at both the school and college
level who
provide important support to students, often without fanfare or
acknowledgment. The purpose of the Counselor of the Year Award is to
recognize a school counselor, college admission representative, or
college counselor for outstanding service and achievement in their
field. The winner will be recognized at the Capital Area School
Development Association (CASDA) Annual Awards Dinner,
Wednesday, April 25, 2012,
at the Holiday Inn, Wolf Road, Albany, NY. Applications have been
mailed to school Principals and Admissions Directors. Colleagues
can also submit nominations, which are
due April 1st. The

Legislative
Advocacy Day

will be joining NYSACAC in Albany on
Tuesday, February 7th,
2012, for Advocacy Day. We will be encouraging the
legislature to continue to support Opportunity programs and the Tuition
Assistance Program for New Yorkers. We are also excited to support
Assembly Bill 8689, which would create the DREAM fund commission.
All are encouraged to attend including students, especially the 10 am
rally in the Legislative Office Building. There is no

New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence (OPDV) has
developed a few simple (and free!) ways you can help spread awareness in

BUS TRIP -
Every year the High
School Counselors Committee puts on a
College Bus Trip. Last year we went to Oneonta & Hartwick and
had a great time but the attendance was low. In order to boost
attendance we want some feedback from the members on what you would like
to see happen with this bus trip: Months and Days that are easier for
you to get out of the office and locations that you would be interested
in visiting. We also have an idea of doing “A Taste of Local Colleges”
where we would visit 3 – 4 local colleges: SCCC, HVCC, Siena, etc . . .
and have a presentation from the school on updates. Tell me what you
think?? We need feedback from the members to make our events fun and
exciting and to assure we are meeting your needs. Please reply
