The CDCA works to advance the discipline of counseling, guidance and personnel work through educational and professional development. Specific to the Capital District of New York State, the organization brings together counselors from all levels to assess current trends to develop each practitioner’s tool box.

Membership benefits include (but are not limited to):

  • Member Exclusive Programs: The CDCA offers programming designed only for members of the organization.

  • Event Registration Discounts: Members are eligible to register for CDCA sponsored events at a discounted rate.

  • Quarterly E-Newsletter: Members will receive the CDCA’s quarterly newsletter that provides organizational updates and counselor happenings within the Capital District. 

  • Networking events: Throughout the year, the CDCA hosts social events for counselors to network with one another.

  • College Caravan: Members in good standing can register for both our Fall and Spring College Caravan programs. These programs are available to members only.

  • Professional Development Grant Opportunities: Members in good standing can submit a grant application to be considered for a limited number of grants, not exceeding $500 per year. For more information on CDCA Grant Guidelines, click here

  • Volunteer opportunities: Members have many opportunities to get involved within the organization (i.e. fundraising events, committees, Executive Board, etc.)

To best serve and develop our members we have 4 types of membership:

  • Regular Membership

    Open to any person whose primary responsibilities or interests are in the area of human development including, but not limited to, those involved in counseling and personnel work and others with similar interests and responsibilities such as admissions counselors, community agency workers, school social workers, school psychologists and para-professionals in counseling. Only Regular members of the CDCA shall be eligible to vote or hold office. The cost is $20.00.

  • Retired Membership

    Any person who is retired after working in an area of human development including, but not limited to, those formerly involved in counseling and personnel work and others with similar interests and previous responsibilities such as admissions counselors, community agency workers, school social workers, school psychologists and para-professionals in counseling. Cost is $10.00.

  • Student Membership

    Any person attending an institution of higher learning within the Capital District area as a full or part-time graduate student preparing for guidance and personnel work. Persons who qualify for a Regular membership may not apply for student membership. Cost is $10.00.

  • Emeritus Membership

    A retired person who has been a Regular member of the CDCA may be nominated by any current member and, with the approval of the Executive Board, may be given Emeritus membership. Emeritus status imposes no dues, but does carry all the rights and privileges of Regular membership. Please nominate an Emeritus member by emailing us at cdcamembership@gmail.com.

  • CDCA Memberships are non-refundable.

How do I become a member?

Join online now by following the link above! You can also sign up in-person at most events. For further questions, email cdcamembership@gmail.com.

How long does my membership last?

Our membership lasts one year and runs from June to June.

What is considered the Capital Region?

CDCA serves Albany, Columbia, Greene, Fulton, Montgomery, Schenectady, Rensselaer, and Southern Saratoga counties.

Can I join if I don’t live in the Capital Region?

Of course! We welcome members from any area in the school counseling field.

How do I get more involved?

Email cdcamembership@gmail.com to get more involved in a committee or learn about other opportunities within the association.
